Unified Patents is seeking prior art for claim 1 of US 6,870,844, owned and asserted in multiple district court cases by Parity Networks, LLC. The '844 patent generally relates to multicasting data packets within a port of a router. All participants must adhere to the following conditions in order to have their submissions considered: (1) If the prior art reference is a patent, it must have a priority date before 2001-05-10. If it is a non-patent reference, it must have been publicly available before 2001-05-10. (2) The contestant must include a PDF attachment of the submitted reference(s) (with or without annotations). (3) The contestant must include a claim chart with the submitted reference(s). (4) Although multiple references may combined to teach or disclose the entire claim, only a SINGLE reference is permitted per submission to teach or disclose that the multicast capable port is “characterized in that data packets assigned for multicasting arrive at the port on the egress path and are diverted to the multicast-capable component, wherein the packets are replicated and/or re-addressed and output to the ingress path into the port,” as recited in claim 1. (5) For the purposes of this contest, “ingress path into the port” and “egress path out of the port” are construed as paths through the port. The port must be capable of bidirectional data flow, with the ingress path permitting data flow from outside of the fabric card to the crossbar and the egress path permitting data flow from the crossbar to outside of the fabric card. It is critical that the SINGLE reference disclose multicasting capabilities within a port, as opposed to, e.g., multicasting capable components in a crossbar connected to a port. It is also critical that the same SINGLE reference show that the replicated packets are output to the ingress path, as opposed to outputting the original data packet to the ingress path.
